Having just returned from a vacation on Cocoa Beach FL, I am reminded of the lessons God wants all of humanity to learn from the impressive pounding of the waves against the shoreline. “The Lord reigns, He is clothed with majesty; The Lord has clothed and girded Himself with strength.” Psalm 93 goes on to bring in the testimony of the mighty waves — everything lies under subjection to the majestic and sovereign reign of the omnipotent God.

However impressed we are with the majesty and strength of the forces seen in nature, we need to look beyond to the Creator Himself who is endued with superior and ultimate majesty and strength.

THE LORD REIGNS FOREVER IN MAJESTY AND STRENGTH

I. (:1) THE EXCELLENCY OF THE ROYAL GARMENTS

  • Clothed in MAJESTY

  • Girded with STRENGTH

II. (:2) THE EXTENT OF THE ROYAL REIGN

  • Forever “Thy throne is established from of old; Thou art from everlasting.”

  • Over All

III. (:3-4) THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THE ROYAL SUPERIORITY

“the world is firmly established, it will not be moved”

“the Lord on high is mighty”

above the floods

above the pounding waves

above the mighty breakers of the sea

There can be no question Who is in charge

No such thing as a Power Struggle when it comes to the Reign of the Lord

IV. (:5) THE EXECUTION OF THE ROYAL WILL

  • Confirmation of Decrees and Testimonies “Thy testimonies are fully confirmed”

  • Consistency of Character = Holiness “Holiness befits Thy house, O Lord, forevermore.”

Therefore, when it comes to worship, we must ask ourselves whether we are approaching God with a proper understanding of His majesty and an appropriate reverence for His holiness. That is one of the major issues I have with the Seeker Service approach to worship. The experience seems more geared towards entertainment and catering to grabbing man’s attention than consistency with the majesty and holiness of the One we are to be worshiping. When we gather together in the name (character) of the Lord, let’s make it our objective to stimulate one another to holiness and good works in service to the One who Reigns Supreme.
