The thrill of fantasy football is sweeping the nation. Fans have found renewed interest in games not involving their home team as they root for the stats of the players they have drafted. Everybody wants the best performers for that week to be listed on their lineup to bring glory to their team. There are many factors to consider:

  • Who is hot?

  • Who will receive the most playing time or touches in the running game or receptions in the passing game?

  • Who might be injured?

  • Who is going against weaker competition so that they have a favorable matchup?

You want to have the right players on your side to give you the best chance for success.

When it comes to the Christian life we constantly need to be reminded that God is actually on our side! As I have been reviewing a Psalm each morning before my prayer time, I have been struck by the repeated emphasis that God is actively working on our behalf. Here are just a few of the key phrases from the past week’s meditations:

***************************************************************

“This I know, that God is for me.” (56:9)

It doesn’t matter who is against me!

***************************************************************

“You are my King, O God; Command victories for Jacob.” (44:4)

We are guaranteed to be on the winning side.

***************************************************************

“Through God we shall do valiantly, And it is He who will tread down our adversaries.” (60:12)

“The Lord of hosts is with us; The God of Jacob is our stronghold.” (46:7)

“Behold, God is my helper; The Lord is the sustainer of my soul.” (54:4)

“I will give You thanks forever, because You have done it.” (52:9)

We are so concerned with our own little accomplishments. We lose sight of the only works which really matter — all that God has accomplished.

***************************************************************

“God accomplishes all things for me” (57:2)

Fantasy football might give some thrills for the moment . . . but having God on my side to work on my behalf provides joy for eternity.
